Chick season is upon us and we are ready to help you get your flock established. Our all wooden, portable, Amish built hen houses are just what you need, whether you are just starting out or have an existing flock needing an upgrade.
All of our chicken coops are built by Amish Craftsman with high quality materials. You can choose your roof material; shingles or metal sheeting, both are the same cost and they also have osb under them! We use a 50 year LP Smart siding that is tongue and groove and primed ready for our 10 year no fade Sherwin Williams paint. We offer urethane colors, too!
All exterior wood is treated and interior wood is a premium grade. The subfloors are advantech, which is one of the highest quality subfloors available. It is a tongue and groove engineered wood product that is highly moisture resistent and won't crumble, buckle or peel. The floor joist and wall studs of the coop are 16" on the centers with a double top plate and 24" roof rafters. The skids are 40 year CCA treated so you won't have to worry about decay! Now that you know how they are made, let's look at the different sizes and options!
A great starter coop for your backyard is a 6x12 with a traditional peaked roof and 6 side walls. It is half coop and half run and fully enclosed to protect your chicks as they grow! The coop features a community nesting box called "The Best Nest Box" that has a reversable egg roller attached. The run comes standard with chicken wire but we can upgrade it to a heavy duty welded wire to provide extra protection from aggressive predators.
The next sizes in our chicken coops with an attached run are 8x16, 10x16, 10x20 and 12x20. These are typically built with a barn or gambrel style roof shape and have shorter walls. They are also completely enclosed and we offer "The Best Nest Box" with the egg roller in them, too. The heavy duty welded wire can also be added if you have aggressive predators in your area.
Another popular coop is what we call our "predator proof" coop. It is an 8x12 utility with nesting boxes, a roost, a single 2x3 window and the chicken door/ ramp. There is no attached run on this model. It does offer a large enclosed hen house at a very affordable price.
We have created custom chicken coops with storage rooms from many of our other shed styles. My favorite was a carriage house that had a transom dormer and storage room on the back. It turned out beautiful. You can see that video on our tik tok page!
